Qualification Overview

This qualification aims to:

• focus on the study of maths
• offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
• provide opportunities to acquire knowledge and practical skills in maths
• support progression to a level 1 Functional Skills qualification in mathematics or GCSE in mathematics

The objectives of this qualification are to enable learners to:

• develop their skills in using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
• develop their skills in common measurements of time, money, weight, capacity, length, shape, and space
• develop their skills in handling data and information
• develop their skills in solving mathematical problems

Funding criteria

This course is funded under the Multiply programme for Slough Borough Council.
The eligibility criteria for free funding are the following:

– Aged 19+
– Resident within the boroughs of Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead
– Resident in the UK continuously for 3 years or more (exceptions apply for refugees)
– Unemployed or in receipt of low income (less than £22,308 per year)
– In receipt of Universal Credit (take home pay less than £617 as a single or £988 as couple)

Entry requirements:

This qualification is designed for any learners who have not achieved a GCSE or Functional Skills qualification in mathematics.
Learners will be required to pass an initial assessment.

Mandatory Units

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully achieve 10 mandatory units from group A and 1 optional unit from group B.
Please refer to the list of units in the qualification specification.

Assessment

This qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured by NCFE.
Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence.

The teaching was very good and informative whilst also being entertaining at getting the class involved and working as a team to learn the modules. The presentation slides were very good and easy to read and learn from. Rusidha taught us very well, as well as including some real life experiences to help better explain some of the modules. The classroom was air conditioned at a comfortable temperature for learning. Overall, the learning sessions were informative and made interesting for all of us and her teaching style and methods made the modules easy to learn and to pass the quizzes at the end. I very much recommend her as a tutor for future courses.

I found the training very useful and learnt some new skills in Business accounting and refreshed my knowledge in other subjects. Rusidha was very engaging and delivered the training in a professional manner. She was very approachable and included the whole class in any discussions. She was able to answer any questions anyone had and if she was not sure she was able to signpost. I have no suggestions for the way she can improve as I was very happy with her style of teaching.
