The programme provides tailored support and training to help individuals overcome barriers and develop the digital numeracy skills needed to enhance their employability prospects and succeed in the digital workplace.

Learners will develop numeracy skills for everyday life, including basic banking, shopping, and budgeting. These numeracy skills can help individuals make informed decisions, manage their daily lives, and navigate various situations with confidence.

The programme also includes basic IT skills training, equipping learners with the relevant skills to find IT accessible. Learners will be able to use digital devices more confidently, interact with digital devices, create various documents, write and send emails, and be able to interact with various programmes.

By mastering these essential skills, participants will gain the confidence and competence needed to progress towards further education and employment opportunities.

The course covers digital and numeracy skills for everyday life, including:

  • Ability to use digital devices more confidently
  • Ability to interact with digital devices
  • Ability to create various documents
  • Ability to write and send professional emails
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to develop word-processed documents, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets
  • Understanding of how to use digital tools to write an effective cover letter and CV
  • Banking (understanding financial transactions, budgeting, and managing money)
  • Shopping (understanding prices, discounts, and sales tax)
  • Budgeting (creating a budget plan for personal finance management)
  • Time management (understanding schedules and timetables, managing daily routines and appointments)
  • Measurement (understanding units of measurement, converting between units, understanding weight and capacity measurements)
  • Financial literacy (understanding interest rates and compound interest, calculating percentages and discounts, understanding credit scores and credit limits)
  • Health and wellness (understanding nutrition labels and calorie counting, measuring body mass index (BMI), tracking physical activity and exercise goals)
  • Household management (budgeting for household expenses, managing inventory and stock levels in the home, understanding energy efficiency and conservation techniques)
  • Travel and transportation (understanding distances and routes using maps or GPS, calculating travel times and budgets, understanding transportation costs and schedules)

Qualification Overview

The aim of this course is for learners to be able to use digital applications involving numeracy more confidently in everyday life.
Learners will learn how to interact with digital devices, create various documents, write and send emails and how to interact with various programmes, as well as develop numeracy skills for everyday life, including basic banking, shopping, and budgeting.

Funding criteria

This course is funded under the Multiply programme for Slough Borough Council.
The eligibility criteria for free funding are the following:

– Aged 19+
– Resident within the boroughs of Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead
– Resident in the UK continuously for 3 years or more (exceptions apply for refugees)
– Unemployed or in receipt of low income (less than £22,308 per year)
– In receipt of Universal Credit (take home pay less than £617 as a single or £988 as couple)

Progression opportunities

Learners can progress into higher qualifications, such as Level 1 and 2 Maths, or secure employment. Additionally, the programme aims to empower parents by improving their digital numeracy skills to better support their children in education.

Entry requirements:

This programme is specifically designed to support individuals with little or no digital skills, particularly those who are unemployed, have limited work experience, or are re-entering the workforce.
All learners must have access to a laptop in order to benefit from the course.
