When Mumtaz Fatima joined the Skills Bootcamp for SEN Professionals, she had been out of work and was looking for a way to build her confidence, gain practical skills and move into the childcare sector. With a clear focus on supporting children and making a meaningful difference, she committed to developing the knowledge needed to begin her career.
Today, Mumtaz is successfully working with Worldwide Education, gaining valuable hands‑on experience across a range of early years settings, including Kido Nursery Windsor, Storybook Sunningdale, and Knowle Green Nursery.
Mumtaz began the programme with a strong interest in understanding children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly in relation to safeguarding and mental health. She was especially keen to explore how to support children experiencing mental health challenges and understand the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on their development.
This focus aligned closely with her ambition to work in childcare and provide safe, supportive environments for young learners.
Throughout the Bootcamp, Mumtaz took an active approach to her learning. She not only completed her coursework but also sought to deepen her understanding through external research, including documentaries and real‑life case studies.

Mumtaz describes her experience on the programme as smooth and well‑supported. She did not encounter significant challenges and found the structure of the course effective in helping her stay focused and complete her studies.
She also received positive encouragement from tutors throughout, which motivated her to progress into employment and continue developing her skills.
By successfully completing the programme—including Paediatric First Aid and Mental Health First Aid—Mumtaz strengthened her employability and readiness for work in early years settings.
The training provided her with the tools and confidence to transition from unemployment into a professional role. Through her placements, she has gained valuable experience working with children, building her confidence and developing her practical skills across different settings.
The Bootcamp has helped Mumtaz understand the level of patience, care and responsibility required to support children with SEND. She now approaches her work with confidence, applying her knowledge to ensure children are supported safely and effectively.
Her journey highlights both personal and professional growth—demonstrating how targeted training and support can open doors to new opportunities.
Mumtaz’s progression from being out of work to gaining employment in multiple nursery settings reflects the impact of the Skills Bootcamp. With practical experience, recognised qualifications and growing confidence, she is now building a strong foundation for a long‑term career in childcare.
