The Preparing to Learn programme is designed for adults who want to return to learning, build confidence and develop the skills needed to progress into further education, training, volunteering or employment.

This programme provides a supportive introduction to learning, helping learners overcome barriers, develop self-belief and gain the confidence needed to successfully engage in education and personal development. It is ideal for individuals who have been away from learning for some time, are considering a career change, or would like support identifying their next steps.

Throughout the programme, learners will develop essential skills and knowledge including goal setting, communication skills, study skills, digital confidence, personal organisation, confidence building and progression planning. Learning focuses on practical activities and real-life situations, helping learners develop the confidence and resilience needed to succeed in learning and everyday life.

This course is particularly suitable for:

PROGRAMME Overview

What You Will Learn

This introductory programme is designed to help learners take their first steps back into learning in a supportive and friendly environment. The focus is on building confidence, developing positive habits and helping learners recognise their existing strengths and potential.

During the programme, learners will explore:

How You Will Learn

This programme is delivered through live, tutor-led online lessons designed to be engaging, supportive and interactive.

  • Duration: 4 days
  • Times: 9:00am to 3:00pm each day
  • Delivery: Live online via Microsoft Teams
  • Tutor Support: Experienced tutors provide guidance, encouragement and individual support throughout the programme

No previous qualifications or experience are required. The programme is designed to be accessible, engaging and supportive for learners who may be returning to learning after a significant break.

This is a Tailored Learning Programme and it is available only for learners who meet the funding eligibility criteria.

FUNDING CRITERIA

This course is fully funded through Gloucestershire Adult Education and is available free of charge to eligible learners.

To be eligible, learners must:

  • Be aged 19 or over on 31 August 2026.
  • Live in Gloucestershire.
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK.
  • Meet the residency requirements for publicly funded adult education.
  • Be able to benefit from the learning programme.

Our team will check eligibility and provide Information, Advice and Guidance before enrolment.

Progression opportunities

Preparing to Learn is designed as the starting point of a wider learning journey.

Upon completion, learners may progress onto:

  • Entry Level qualifications
  • Level 1 qualifications
  • Level 2 qualifications
  • Employability Skills

Our tutors provide ongoing Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to help learners identify the most appropriate next step based on their interests, strengths and aspirations.
